Some musicians are lending their talents to help raise funds for those living with food insecurities in Asbury Park.
Joe Grushecky calls Asbury Park his second home. And so, the Pittsburgh-based singer songwriter and his band the Houserockers are using their talents to help those in need.
“Our band always believed that giving back to the community was part and parcel of what it’s all about,” Grushecky says.
Grushecky is among 19 artists performing in a streamed even called “Shine A Light,” which is organized by the Light of Day Foundation. The organization is typically known for its annual concerts to benefit Parkinson’s Disease causes. The musical event encourages donations to benefit those experiencing food insecurities.
“We’ve put a quarter-million dollar into the economy since March. We’ve served almost 100,000 meals,” says Asbury Park Dinner Table co-founder Julie Andreola.
Asbury Park Dinner Table is a nonprofit that purchases packaged meals from participating restaurants in Asbury Park, which are then given to community members in need. Andreola says that she hopes that those who have enjoyed coming to Asbury Park will come to its aid.
The Shine A Light concert event will be streamed on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the Light of Day Foundation’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
