More than five decades into Gloria Gaynor’s Grammy Award-winning career and a hit song that made her a household name around the globe, the "I Will Survive” singer continues a prolific touring schedule.

"It gives me energy, it gives me purpose, it gives me joy," Gaynor says of performing live.

The New Jersey resident will soon be in front of a home state audience once again with a Sept. 16 concert scheduled at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood.

Gaynor, who grew up in Newark, is also showing another side of herself in the documentary, "Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive." The film, which premiered earlier this month at the Tribeca Film Festival, focuses on the dance music icon's struggle to release her first album in many years, 2019's "Testimony."

"We went to every label we could think of, and nobody wanted the album, nobody wanted me. Because I was a Disco artist," Gaynor says. "Testimony" is a Gospel album and a passion project for Gaynor who says she long dreamed of writing and recording Gospel music. The record label Gaither Music Group ultimately came on board and Gaynor won her second Grammy for "Testimony" 40 years after her first for "I Will Survive."

"That was satisfying, that was very satisfying," Gaynor says.
