The county still has roughly 102,000 JCP&L customers without power.
Utility crews from Indiana Michigan Power were gathered in a shopping center parking lot on Route 9 in Howell, about a mile south of I-195. Officials say they were being dispatched to areas in need in Jackson and Lakewood.
“Right now, it’s powerlines that are on the roadway,” says Lt. Joseph Markuic. “We as officers are not going to touch them or leave them so we need somebody from the power company to say it’s OK it’s clear and they can move them off the roadway for us. But then again, we have to kind of stay by them or somebody has to stay by them because if they do power up a section and that goes hard, then obviously somebody could get seriously injured.”
Ocean County’s outages have dropped significantly, now down to less than 39,000 after being around 100,000 this time Wednesday.
