The murder investigation of an immigrant in Mount Vernon has finally been closed after 27 years.
Detectives say Daniel James confessed to fatally shooting Jacinto Liriano during an attempted robbery on West First Street back in 1993.
They say that confession came in 2007, but due to circumstances, the case was never brought to trial.
It remained a cold case until investigators reviewed the case this year and once again presented it to the DA's office. This time, the District Attorney officially agreed James was the person responsible.
Investigators found James died last year while serving time for the death of two Mount Vernon police officers. They say they hope the conclusion can bring a sense of closure to Liriano's family.
