A man pleaded guilty to bias intimidation for harassing and yelling racial slurs at five of his former neighbors.
Prosecutors say Edward Mathews, 47, was caught on camera yelling slurs that sparked protests outside his house. They say an investigation began in July 2021 after a resident filed a harassment complaint against Mathews at the Mount Laurel Police Department.
The investigation revealed a pattern of abuse from Mathews against his neighbors that included leaving a threatening note on one of their vehicles, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors say police also found drugs in Mathews’ home, and he pleaded guilty to charges of planning to sell the drugs.
Mathews will receive an eight-year prison sentence for the offenses. He is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 8.
