Clinton Township police are requesting the public's help regarding an incident that occurred over the weekend involving a near collision and assault.
Police were dispatched Saturday to an assault in progress on Cokesbury Road. The incident stemmed from a near collision between a vehicle and multiple motorcyclists. Police were advised a group of motorcyclists had dragged the 62-year-old male victim from his vehicle, assaulted him and stole his cellphone.
The motorcycles were then seen fleeing the scene. Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Cokesbury Road, but the motorcycles failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed on Route 22 West, initiating a pursuit.
Police observed the motorcycles, around 13 in total, as they approached Petticoat Lane still headed west on Route 22. Police pursued the motorcycles onto Route 78 West until they exited onto Route 173, Exit 11, in Union Township.
A partial New York registration was obtained, along with the specific make and model of a motorcycle. With the information, police chose to terminate the pursuit in favor of alternative investigative means, which are actively being pursued. Pending charges may include robbery, aggravated assault and eluding.
The Hunterdon County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of $1,500 for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.
Anyone with information is urged to reach out to Hunterdon County Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip via phone call at 800-321-0010, using a mobile app which can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tips, or online.
