In addition to rallying for immigration rights Tuesday, advocates also protested the deputization of local police officers to Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) agents.
The immigrant advocacy group, Wind of the Spirits, joined in on International Worker?s Day to demand equality and legalization. The group also addressed Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello?s initiative to deputize the police officers.
Many at the rally feel turning cops into INS agents will create fear in immigrant families. They add that it will also create racial profiling in the town.
Crestiello has said in the past that he will not allow rallies or petitions to sway his position or his application with immigration customs and enforcements.
