A young cancer patient from Morris County has started a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric cancer. Malcom Sutherland-Foggio, 13, battled Ewing's sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. While in the hospital for treatment, Malcom says he learned that out of all the money in this country raised for cancer research, only 3 percent goes toward children's cancer.
Malcom's mom tells News 12 New Jersey that a then-10-year-old Malcom looked at her during treatment and said, "Somebody really needs to make some noise about this."
Within the year, the foundation MAKE SOME NOISE: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation was born in an office in Parsippany. Since getting out of the hospital, Malcom has raised more than $650,000 for children diagnosed with cancer.
This weekend is the foundation's biggest fundraiser, and Malcom's in charge of all the auction items.
Malcom's cancer has to be in remission for 10 years before he's officially considered a survivor. By then, the NOISE could be global.
