More than 20K nurses prepared to strike if contract negotiations fail

The deadline for contract negotiations between New York City private sector nurses and the hospitals is midnight Dec. 31.

If they fail to reach an agreement, the nurses could give 10-day strike notices any time after midnight.

Last week, nurses at 12 New York City hospitals voted overwhelmingly to authorize strikes.

Their five demands from the hospitals include fair wages, more staffing, protection from workplace violence and better medical coverage for both staff and patients.
