More than 100 dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, are getting a new lease on life, thanks to several local volunteer organizations.
The shelter dogs were all set to be put down in California, but they will soon find new homes in the area.
The dogs landed at Teterboro Airport on Tuesday, and are headed to six different rescue groups in the tri-state area.
The rescue was made possible by a volunteer organization called Wings of Rescue. It is a group of volunteer pilots who fly dogs from kill shelters to areas where they can be put up for adoption.
Some of the dogs are going to St. Hubert's in Madison.
