The next batch of dogs rescued from animal shelters in Texas has arrived in New Jersey.
The animals were already in shelters prior to Hurricane Harvey’s arrival and are being moved to make room for any family pets that get lost or displaced while the families are evacuated.
A plane carrying about 80 Texan dogs will arrived at Morristown Airport just after 10 p.m. Tuesday. Saint Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison coordinated the airlift.
“It’s making sure there is opportunity and capacity for those people and pets in their community, because animals that were already in the shelter system are going to be relieved from there,” said Saint Hubert’s Heather Cammisa.
The dogs will be distributed to shelters around New Jersey and will eventually be put up for adoption.
Dozens of displaced dogs have already arrived in New Jersey since the storm struck the Southern Gulf region.
