A former railroad terminal in Essex County has been transformed into a holiday market, breathing new life into a space that's sat vacant for the past 10 years.

Saturday was the first time the Lackawanna Station in Montclair has been reopened to the public in any capacity.

In total, more than 175 vendors and food trucks took over the space, offering handmade or vintage products and items.

BDP Holdings acquired the property in 2021 and has partnered with Montclair Flea to host the market.

People are encouraged to continue to visit regularly over the weeks as vendors will constantly be changing.

Those involved say they couldn't think of a better way to kick off the holiday season and revitalize the space.

"Come out and support small businesses. It's vital to our communities,” said David Placek, the CEO of BDP Holdings. “I think a lot of people post-COVID have kind of gotten in touch with her creative side and entrepreneurial side. This is a great way to show support for them.”

The Montclair Flea Holiday Market runs every Saturday and Sunday from 11-6 p.m. now through Jan. 19.
