The field at MetLife Stadium will look a little different than usual this weekend.
With apologies to football fans and concert tours, Monster Jam might be the loudest event to rip up MetLife Stadium. Saturday night’s event is a special one for some of the drivers.
“The first time I was here, we actually won the overall event championship,” said world champion driver Tristan England. “The judging here is very tough.”
The crew is also bringing something new to town this time.
“I've got this new truck (JCB Digatron),” England said. “I want to come in here and make a huge footprint and be a problem, a thorn in their side for every other competitor, and I just want to have a great time for the fans.”
“I just came back from having a baby three months ago,” said world champion driver Cynthia Gauthier. “I had a whole year off, so I’m a little bit nervous to come back, but I'm excited. I got to jump a little bit, test my shocks and it feels really good.”
It’s just a little bit different from your daily driver. The tires are more than six feet tall, the vehicles weigh six tons and carry 1,500 horsepower.
“You control your back wheel with a little joystick and your front wheel with a steering wheel,” Gauthier said.
“There's so much adrenaline that's involved in this,” England said. “It's hard to come in tune with you and the truck and be one with everything and just stay consistent because that's the key to winning.”
Drivers say the biggest thrill is connecting with 40,000 fans.
“It’s an honor for me to represent the girls especially, and show that we can do it too,” Gauthier said.
“There’s so many greats that are in this sport,” England said. “I just want to be one of those one day.”
New Jersey Transit will be running a shuttle bus from Secaucus Junction to the stadium starting at 2 p.m. Saturday until about an hour after the show ends.
Doors open at 5 p.m. on Saturday. You can find event and ticketing information HERE.
