JCP&L has roughly 2,500 customers in the dark, while PSE&G has more than 500. Crews have been working for hours trying to get the power restored.
The rain and hail came down hard in many places around New Jersey, as many people saw hail the size of golf balls. A viewer in South Plainfield says the large pieces of hail were coming down for 10 minutes.
There was also hail in Metuchen, where viewers also saw lightning, flooding, and felt heavy wind gusts.
