A Morris County mother has put together an exhibit featuring her daughter’s artwork in order to bring attention to suicide prevention.
Dee Rincon says that her 30-year-old daughter Marisa took her own life earlier this year.
Marisa was an artist, and Rincon arranged to show her artwork at the County College of Morris as a way to help her with her grief and to honor her daughter.
“We knew that Marisa was suffering with depression and anxiety. We got her the best medical help we could. But looking at the artwork you see that she was suffering,” Rincon says.
Rinco says that her focus is now on suicide prevention so that fewer families have to experience what she is going through. She says that the best way to reach people is how Marisa would have, through her art.
“[Art] was her whole life. It was her passion,” Rincon says.
The exhibit is entitled "An Impression of Life." It's on view at the Masten Library at the County College of Morris for the rest of this week.
