Health officials unveiled mobile medical care units at University Hospital in Newark on Thursday.
Each unit is made from a 40-foot-long repurposed shipping container. They were built through a collaboration between the New Jersey Institute of Technology, University Hospital and the Tuchman Foundation.
Each unit can be moved to areas with large disease outbreaks or to areas that lack health care infrastructure.
“University Hospital…really its very roots are in issues of inequality and commitment to heal the gaps,” said Sen. Cory Booker, who attended the unveiling. “We are a city that is poised to demonstrate that we can solve these problems of racial disparities in health care.”
