Newark’s University Hospital unveiled a new mobile mammography bus.
The radiology lab on wheels will serve more than 4,000 women each year with free or low-cost mammograms and pap smears.
Hospital officials say they hope to help women who face challenges with insurance, child care, transportation or work hours.
The $1.2 million unit features a 3D screening technology, a full-time clinical team and bilingual navigators.
