More than $1 million in cuts are coming to Millstone Schools due to voters' rejection of its proposed budget. The proposed budget would have raised taxes for the average homeowner by about $455 per year.

More than $1 million in cuts are coming to Millstone Schools due to voters' rejection of its proposed budget.
The proposed budget would have raised taxes for the average homeowner by about $455 per year.
Three teachers will be let go, the music program cut in half and class size will be increased for the 5th grade. Parents will also have to pay in full for sports and extracurricular activities while also shelling out more money for field trips.
"If I then have to subsidize music classes, field trips, who knows what will come after that? Where are my taxes going?" asks angry parent Joan Daily, whose fourth-grade son attends Millstone schools.
The district points out that it already spends less money per student than 99 percent of the state's schools. Board of Education President Thomas Foley says neither the council nor the district is to blame, but rather the voters who shot down the budget.
