The defendant in the so-called "nanny cam" trial has been found guilty of all charges except the most serious one.
Shawn Custis was accused of breaking into a home in Millburn and brutally beating a woman for several minutes while her young daughter sat nearby on the couch. The beating was recorded on the home's nanny camera.
Custis, 45, was found guilty of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, robbery, burglary, criminal restraint and theft.
A jury did not find him guilty of attempted murder, the most serious charge. The jury spent about two days deliberating.
Custis always maintained that he was not the man seen in the video. His defense attorney says that the case was investigated by racist police officers who planted blood evidence to make Custis look guilty.
However, Essex County prosecutors say that there is no mistaking that the man in the video is Custis. A number of Custis' former girlfriends identified him as the man in the video as well.
Custis could face 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on June 29.
