With three weeks to go in the race for New Jersey Governor, Democrat Mikie Sherrill continues to push hard on connecting Republican Jack Ciattarelli to the opioid crisis.
On Monday, while speaking in Clifton, Sherrill said Ciattarelli was “complicit” with the opioid makers.
As she did so in last week’s gubernatorial debate, Sherrill again pointed out that Ciattarelli’s company, Galen Publishing, took $12 million to knowingly print misinformation about the addictive nature of opioids.
Sherrill had fellow Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone, an addiction counselor and a relative of a victim of opioid addiction, by her side to say that Ciattarelli needs to account for his actions.
“I’m dumbfounded that this perennial candidate, who has run now for three elections, saying he is a small business owner, the minute we start to talk about that small business, he wants his lawyers to shut it down,” said Sherrill.
Ciattarelli has pushed back against the allegations, with plans to file a defamation lawsuit against Sherrill for saying during last week’s debate that he was linked to “killing tens of thousands of people.”
His campaign put out a statement saying in part, “Accusing a political opponent of mass murder in a televised debate crosses the line."
