Middletown residents are blaming another coyote attack for the death of their dog Tuesday.
The dog owners say a wild animal, believed to be a coyote, dragged their 6-pound toy fox terrier into the woods of Konkel Park and killed her. The incident occurred on Highland Avenue in the Leonardo section of town.
?We were yelling, waving our hands, but she was lying in the grass?it was too late,? dog owner Paula Wellbrock said.
The attack occurred after two attacks on children in the past two months. Both children are recovering from head wounds. Police have issued a reverse 911 warning to inform the public about keeping young children and pets indoors after dark. Four local schools have also done away with outdoor recess until further notice as a precaution.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy has agreed to let state wildlife officers on Earl Naval base grounds for trapping and surveillance of coyotes. Many believe the coyotes live on the base.
All of the coyote attacks are under investigation.
