A local community gathered Friday to shed tears and share memories of a Middletown girl killed in the Virginia Tech massacre. Friends, family and perfect strangers held a candlelight vigil in the name of Julia Pryde at Middletown High School North. Friends gathered in a circle and held hands as they remembered their 23-year-old life-long friend. Pryde was a 2001 graduate of Middletown North. Her friends say it was her dream to attend Virginia Tech. She graduated in 2006 with a degree in environmental engineering and went on to pursue a master?s degree. One friend shared this story: ?My cell phone was dead and I turned it on at 11:47 and there was a text message from her.? She went on to say she spoke to Pryde?s brother two hours later and discovered the horrible news. A wake is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday. Friends say they may be forced to say goodbye, but the memory of Julia will never fade. The lives of Matthew La Porte, from Dumont, and Michael Pohle, from Flemington, were also lost in the tragedy.
