A second man has pleaded guilty for his role in the largest methamphetamine bust in New Jersey history, involving over 260 pounds of the drug transported across state lines.
Carlos H. Cordero-Gutierrez, 54, of Juarez City, Mexico, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Camden Federal Court to a one-count information charging him with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
Federal prosecutors said Cordero-Gutierrez picked up a shipment containing hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine in Texas driving a tractor-trailer truck in April 2026. He drove the rig to New Jersey, arriving on April 28, where law enforcement officers intercepted the delivery.
During the arrest, officers seized three black storage boxes, a duffel bag, and a garbage bag from inside the truck cab. Together, the containers held over 260 pounds of methamphetamine.
Cordero-Gutierrez and a co-conspirator, Marcos Cesar Acosta, were arrested at the scene. Acosta previously pleaded guilty to his role in the conspiracy on Aug. 5, 2026.
The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum penalty of life, along with a fine of up to $10 million.
Cordero-Gutierrez is scheduled to be sentenced before U.S. District Judge Karen M. Williams on March 23, 2027. Acosta is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 17, 2026.
