Friends and neighbors have set up a memorial for a grandmother and her 5-year-old granddaughter who died following a house fire in Bergen County.
Officials say Margaret Colon, an administrative assistant at Farleigh Dickinson University, and 5-year-old Maribella Colon were initially rescued from Tuesday's house fire on Washington Avenue, but died Wednesday afternoon from their injuries.
Friends and neighbors set up balloons and flowers for the victims on the burnt front porch of the home.
Officials say three generations lived on the top floor of the unit and that the little girl's mother is currently being treated for her injuries. Other residents of the multifamily home have suffered broken bones and smoke inhalation.
Colon's family says they're in shock. Gift cards are being accepted to help the victims of the fire at the Meadowlands Family Success Center.
Three police officers were also treated for minor injuries. Investigators say the cause of the fire is still unknown.
