The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will take place this weekend, and some furry friends from New Jersey will be competing.
The longstanding and prestigious event brings together the top pups to compete in categories like best of breed and best of variety. This year, dozens from the Garden State will be competing.
“Kushla is my agility girl. It was a lot of work, so I’m proud of her,” says owner Kathleen Brown. “And Tully is my first breed show dog.”
“When we found out Twizzler was in, it was just very, very exciting to be back there,” says owner Robin Mathews.
The owners say that there is plenty of preparation involved in getting their pets ready for the competition.
"We go to class at least once a week and then I do a lot of training in my backyard,” says Brown. “I have a lot of equipment in my backyard and even on days when it's nasty out and you can't train, you still do little exercises in the house to keep them in shape."
The competition begins on Saturday and runs through Tuesday in New York City. The Westminster Kennel Club has held the event every year since 1877.
