A judge has ruled in Jim McGreevey's favor in the former governor's divorce trial.

McGreevey will not have to pay alimony to his ex-wife, Dina Matos. He is still on the hook, however, for child support and will pay $1,075 for the care of the former first couple's daughter.

The former governor had testified that he was too poor and couldn't afford the alimony Matos was demanding. She had asked for $2,500 a month on top of the child support amount granted.

McGreevey, who is now a seminary student, told the judge he lives primarily off his current partner. Matos' attorney maintained that the former governor had more earning potential than he admitted and insisted McGreevey was hiding a stash of money.

The former first couple's relationship crumbled in 2004 after McGreevey admitted he was gay and said he had an affair with a male staffer in 2004. He resigned from office during that announcement. The male staffer has denied the affair and claims he was sexually harassed by McGreevey.
