Officials say dozens of swans have died at Lake of the Lilies in Point Pleasant Beach due to bird flu.
Mayor Paul Kanitra says 30 swans, one goose and one duck have died in recent days. Tests determined it the cause of death was bird flu.
Kanitra says the disease is moving quickly through the lake population and they are hoping it will fully run its course soon.
Human transmission is extremely rare, but officials want anyone near the lake to keep a safe distance away from the animals.
The mayor says this is a sad time for the town and the many bird watchers who come to Lake of the Lilies to see the beautiful wildlife.
