Many parents in New Jersey are trying to keep track of their kids toys after a second major recall was announced Tuesday by Mattel.
The recall affects more than 9 million toys made in China. Included in the recall are more than 250,000 cars based on the character ?Sarge? from the movie ?Cars.? More than 7 million sets from the ?Polly Pocket? series are also included.
The company says the ?Cars? toys contain an unsafe amount of lead paint. Mattel also says the ?Polly Pocket? series toys have magnets that can come loose.
Mattel is now trying to prove to parents it is working on the problem. It has taken out full-page ads asking the public to trust the company despite the recalls.
Some parents say it is difficult to keep up with the number of recalls. The Mattell woes, along with other recalls of products made in China, have many parents vowing never to buy products made in the country again.
State Assemblyman Neil Cohen is now working on legislation to help better inform consumers about recalls. Part of the legislation could include flagging products? bar codes, so a notice will show up at the register.
