An 80-year-old Pennsylvania man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after his 2024 Kia struck the rear of a tractor-trailer on Route 1 south Wednesday morning.

According to West Windsor police, officers responded to the area after receiving multiple 911 calls around 9:52 a.m. The driver of a 2024 Kia struck the center median several times before drifting into the center lane and rear-ending a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer being driven by a 38-year-old Bogota man. The truck driver said he felt a slight impact, then checked his mirrors and saw the Kia stopped in the left lane.

When first responders arrived, the 80-year-old Kia driver was unresponsive. Crews immediately began CPR, removed the man from the car and transported him to a local hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries, police said.

Following the crash, West Windsor police obtained dash camera footage of the incident.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Kia may have experienced a medical episode and lost consciousness prior to the crash,” police said in a statement.

The crash remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Traffic Officer K. Brown at 609-799-1222 or brown@westwindsorpolice.com. Information can also be called into the anonymous tip line at 609-799-0452.
