The man shot by a Hackensack police officer Monday evening has died, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli.
The man has been identified as 22-year-old Raymond Peralta-Lantigua.
According to Molinelli, police were responding to a 911 call about some type of disturbance at 185 Johnson Ave. in a second-floor apartment.
Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey they heard a lot of yelling and then heard the gunshots. Molinelli confirms one officer fired his weapon. He also says a knife was involved in the altercation and was recovered from the scene.
Witnesses say they saw officers attempting to revive Peralta-Lantigua, but he did not survive his injuries.
Records show Peralta-Lantigua was recently released from the Bergen County Jail after being arrested on criminal trespassing charges.
The incident marks the second police-involved shooting in the town in the past several weeks. On May 21, Elvin Diaz was shot and killed after confronting police officers with a kitchen cleaver.
