Following the brutal execution style murders of three college students over the weekend, police are investigating a Tuesday evening shooting involving a corrections officer.

Authorities say the corrections officer was outside his Grand Avenue home around 9:30 p.m. when he was approached by a man with a gun. Neighbors heard between five and seven gunshots after a man approached the corrections officer. The man who approached the officer died in the driveway following the shootout.

Neighbors describe the corrections officer as a ?great guy? and believe he was acting in self-defense.

Police are currently investigating the apparent homicide.
