New Jersey State Police have charged a man in the fatal shooting of a Tabernacle Township resident Friday morning.
State police say that David Stead, 42, shot and killed Thomas Wright II, 49, inside of Wright's home on Patty Bowker Road in Tabernacle Township.
State troopers were called to the home Friday afternoon after the victim's father discovered his body. Wright operated a business out of his home called Artisan Building Creations. His family went to check on him after he failed to show up at a job site that day, according to police.
Police say that Stead used to work for Wright and went to the home with the intention of robbing him.
According to investigators, Stead instead shot Wright multiple times in the head and neck and then stole a small amount of cash and a white pickup truck that Wright was renting. Police say that the pickup truck was found on July 3 less than a mile from Stead's home.
Stead faces several charges, including murder, felony murder and robbery. He is being held in the Burlington County Jail on $1 million bail.
A court hearing is expected to be held Tuesday.
