A man accused of stalking and harassing Gov. Mikie Sherrill is behind bars following an arrest tied to incidents connected to New Jersey.
U.S. Marshals arrested 72-year-old Stephen Cilurso, authorities said.
Cilurso is accused of leaving explicit messages directed at Sherrill while she was running for governor.
There were reported incidents in October and November, authorities said.
Officials did not say whether the messages were sent by phone or over the internet.
New Jersey State Police issued a warrant last week for the man, who is from Pennsylvania.
