A Roselle mother claims her 26-year-old son was shot in the chest by a police officer Wednesday evening.
Roselle police and investigators from the prosecutor's office were on the scene at the intersection of St. Georges and Rivington avenues Wednesday night searching for answers about the incident, which landed Andre Doss in the hospital.
Doss' mother, Rhonda Julius, says Sgt. Riccadelli told her the officer who allegedly shot her son slipped on the wet floor entering a contracting office owned by Doss' father and his gun accidentally went off. A single gunshot hit Doss in the chest.
According to Doss, several police officers kicked in the front door of his father's office and when he opened the second door, which is solid without a window, he was immediately shot. Julius told News 12 New Jersey that Doss was on probation for a drug conviction, but doesn't think the shooting is related to that. Doss' girlfriend says he will likely survive the gunshot wound.
Officers say this is the second police-involved shooting in Union County this week.
