The man accused of shooting and wounding an off-duty New York City police detective in Manalapan pleaded not guilty today.
Robert Dunbar appeared via closed circuit video due to an apparent case of chickenpox among some prisoners at the county jail where he is being held.
Dunbar turned himself in late Saturday night after a 20-hour manhunt. He faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities say the shooting happened Friday night at a Manalapan home on Taylors Mills Road. Authorities haven't released the NYPD officer's name or said why he was at the house. Dunbar's attorney told News 12 New Jersey his client did not know the man was a police officer.
An NYPD spokesman confirms the officer is assigned to the Brooklyn-based 63rd Precinct detective squad.
