A man suspected of following a young woman to her Essex county home and sexually assaulting her is now in police custody.
Authorities say 40-year-old Muhammad Sharif was arrested Saturday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and burglary.
Police flooded the streets searching for the person who allegedly followed a 24-year-old woman to her Maplewood home last Tuesday and forced his way inside and assaulted her in broad daylight.
The unidentified woman was treated and released at an area hospital.
