A man wanted for allegedly killing two people inside his Virginia home was arrested in New Jersey Tuesday after pointing a firearm at a relative in Evesham.
Evesham police responded to a home on Kelly Drive at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a man standing outside the residence, pointing a gun and threatening the homeowner. When police arrived, the suspect, identified as Amandeep Singh, 49, of Manassas, Virginia, had already left the area. According to police, Singh traveled to New Jersey in search of his estranged wife. He was later located and arrested in Medford Township and was found to be in possession of multiple firearms including a .40 caliber handgun and an AK47 rifle with four fully loaded, high-capacity magazines.
During the course of their investigation, officers contacted police in Prince William County, Virginia, and requested a welfare check at Sigh's home.
"Officers arrived at the residence and found a door to the home unsecured. During a safety check of the residence, the two victims were located deceased in the basement from gunshot wounds. The two deceased were reportedly married and renting the basement living area of the home," Prince William County police said in a press release. "The additional family members known to reside with the accused at the home were located and found to be safe."
The victims were identified as Joshua Lee David, 45, and Nicole Wanda Lynn Davis, 45, both of Manassas, Virginia.
Investigators later learned that prior to fleeing to Evesham, Singh was involved in an armed domestic altercation during which he held two women against their will inside the bedroom of a home. He discharged a firearm during the incident, but the shot missed both women.
"Additionally, the accused struck one of the family members while holding the firearm before placing his hands around the neck of the other family member. The parties eventually separated, and the other family members left the home. The initial domestic incident was not immediately reported to police. At some point following the domestic encounter, the accused shot and killed the two victims in the basement before leaving the home and driving to New Jersey in an attempt to locate his family," police in Virginia said.
Police say there is no known connection between the deceased victims and the domestic incident. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
Following his arrest, Evesham police say the suspect was taken to Virtual Hospital in Marlton for treatment unrelated to the arrest. While being treated, Singh allegedly kicked a police officer. He was later transported to Burling County Jail, where he remains pending his first appearance in Burlington County Superior Court.
Singh has been charged with murder, abduction, strangulation, domestic assault and battery, multiple firearms offenses and murder.
