An Italian teacher is marking 50 years of teaching at Lynbrook High School.

Lenny Bruno started his career in September 1973.

"Teaching is one, if not, the most noble profession because you are affecting the lives of many kids, getting them to grow in your discipline, make them more excited about learning," Bruno says.

Bruno says foreign language instruction has become a communicative field in which students need to learn about the people and their customs. He makes lessons come to life by teaching recipes, holiday traditions and songs from Italy.

Students, however, say the most memorable lessons from Bruno are life lessons.

"He's taught me not to take things for granted and to always have a smile on my face no matter what," says Nicholas Pugliese.

Bruno is now 73 and says he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

"Kids love coming to my class, and I love being with them," Bruno says.

In addition to teaching students at Lynbrook, Bruno has also chaperoned them abroad in Europe on tours that help them get a taste of life overseas.
