Governor Jon Corzine?s (D-NJ) decision to put the bear hunt in Morris County on hold is getting mixed reviews from people who live in bear country. Kinnelon resident Julia Plate says she was relieved to hear the hunt was postponed. She says she recently had a life-changing experience when she saw a bear cub wandering down the road. Plate says she fell in love with the little guy. Barbara Pomeroy, also of Kinnelon, has the same kind of compassion for animals, but admits bears are a real safety concern. Kinnelon Police Officer Christopher Carbone, however, says the large bear population needs to be controlled. Hunt or no hunt, Carbone says his job includes informing residents on the reality of living among the wild.
