Two veterans received donated cars in Paterson on Flag Day as a way to thank them for their service.
Albert Caraballo, of Bloomfield, is a decorated 16-year veteran of the Army National Guard who retired from the service last year. He was presented with a Nissan.
Caraballo takes care of an ill parent and his children. All in all, it’s a three-hour commute.
David Gibbons, of Hackensack, served as a Russian language specialist for the U.S. Air Force only to be laid off once back in civilian life.
He managed to find jobs as a substitute teacher and a position with the Veterans Administration.
The Hyundai presented to Gibbons will help him get to his jobs and visit his son without lengthy bus rides.
Caraballo was nominated for the donation by the veterans organization Eyes, Inc. of New Jersey, while Gibbons was nominated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The donations were made possible by the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides Program, Geico Insurance and Dynasty Auto Body of Paterson.
