Should romantic partners always tell the truth with one another? Are there times when lying can be beneficial?
Bustle.com recently released a list of nine things one does not need to tell their partner in their relationships.
The list includes: Small quirks you find annoying, leftover feelings you have for an ex, how you feel about their family, the fact that you find a friend attractive, the fact that you have doubts about your relationship, your opinions about their friends, how you feel about their goals, your family’s opinion about your partner and things you miss about old relationships.
But is it healthy in a relationship to keep things hidden?
“We’ve all engaged in little white lies,” says dating coach and relationship expert Julianne Cantarella. “But you have to weigh if what you’re going to say to someone is going to be hurtful or will it add value to the relationship.”
Cantarella says that she definitely recommends leaving an ex-relationship in the past.
"We all have our insecurities. Are we measuring up? And then if we're being measured to an ex, that really undermines a stable relationship,” she says.
Cantarella says that the best way to have a healthy relationship is to be authentic, be genuine and be truthful about the things that matter.
