It’s a summery start to the week, but changes are brewing as August comes to a close.

It was a beautiful start to the final "unofficial" week of summer. Temperatures reached the upper 80s in some areas. There were even a few readings in the southwestern areas of the state that reached above 90 degrees. The lack of humidity made it a pleasant heat on the waning days of August.
Will there be more?
Not for August. The heat ship has left the port and pleasant, but cooler temperatures are here for at least the next 10 days. It's that part of the season where the heat begins its hiatus and cooler weather starts its stand.
August hasn't had a premium on rainfall. There were only three times this month when we had a collection of more than a quarter inch of precipitation in our rain gauges.
As a result, the state is in another deficit. With the lack of rainwater, levels have begun to drop in reservoirs and groundwater reserves. As a result, parts of northern New Jersey have been reestablished in a drought.
It is not concerning at the moment, but we should start to conserve where and when we can because the chances for rain this week are very slim.
