A lifeguard from Seaside Heights is being hailed a hero after saving a 10-month-old baby from choking to death on a piece of plastic.
According to NJ.com, Pete Laquaglia, 20, of Toms River, was on his break on the boardwalk last week when he said he heard screaming.
Laquaglia ran to help and found the child choking on a piece of plastic.
He put the baby over his knee and performed the Heimlich maneuver.
The baby has made a full recovery.
LaQuaglia was a standout linebacker at Toms River High School North and a former All-Shore defensive player.
He attributes his lifeguarding skills to his athleticism.
