Dramatic body cam video shows the moment Stafford Township police officers caught a resident forced to jump from an upstairs window to escape a fast-moving house fire. On Feb. 12, around 1:30 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a house fire on Yeoman Road. Officers immediately noticed heavy fire conditions, with flames showing through the house's windows. As they approached, officers noticed a resident trying to escape by jumping from a second-story window. Officers called up to the resident, urging them to jump as fire engulfed the house. "Through their quick thinking, teamwork, and selfless actions, the officers were able to safely catch the individual and prevent serious injury or loss of life," Stafford Township Police Chief James Haldenwang said on social media. "This incident is a powerful example of the dedication and courage of our officers. What these officers did was truly amazing. Their quick, selfless actions undoubtedly saved this man's life, and I am awestruck by the heroics displayed." According to the Ocean County prosecutor's office, two people escaped the burning house and were hospitalized. A third resident, a 92-year-old woman, could not escape and succumbed to her injuries. "While this incident tragically resulted in a loss of life, we extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones affected," the police chief said. The fire's cause is under investigation.
