Lawyers painted two different pictures of the victim Monday at the trial of a New Jersey nurse accused of killing and dismembering her husband.
Jay Tandava, a neighbor of victim William McGuire, described his friend as an extroverted family man who worked long hours for New Jersey Institute of Technology installing computer systems. Tandava testified that a letter from William?s wife, Melanie, tipped him off that something terrible had happened to his friend.
Defense lawyers claim when William wasn?t working, he was gambling. They have suggested that William?s death was related to gambling debts. William?s car was found in an Atlantic City hotel parking lot. However, prosecutors say Melanie planted the vehicle there.
Melanie is accused of drugging, shooting and cutting up her husband. She is also accused of putting his body parts in three suitcases and dumping them in the Chesapeake Bay.
