It has now become a battle of words between the mayor of West New York and the Cuban Day Parade organizers after the mayor announced he won?t let the parade through his town.
Mayor Sal Vega made the announcement over the weekend, and on Monday he took shots at parade organizers from the Latin American Kiwanis Club.
?You?re dealing with an organization who?s profiting from this parade,? Vega said. ?They sell themselves as a non-profit organization.?
Organizers battled back Tuesday. They said two years ago they became a for-profit organization and never said otherwise.
There have also been conflicting reports about when the mayor last marched in the parade. Organizers said Vega has been marching for the past seven years, but Vega originally stated that it?s been years since he participated. After viewing video of himself at the 2006 parade, Vega admitted to News 12 New Jersey that he had participated last year.
Parade organizers said they will now be filing a lawsuit to gain permission to march through West New York. Vega said his lawyers will be ready.
