A large fire damaged a home in Bayonne Thursday evening and closed a local street for several hours.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Avenue B. Avenue B was closed for several hours while crews continued to battle the flames.
Firefighters were ordered to evacuate the home during the fight due to dangerous conditions. They were forced to battle the fire from the outside only, officials said.
Neighbors who spoke with News 12 New Jersey said the flames spread quickly.
"A ball of flames came out of that bottom floor window, and they broke the window. And the next thing you know, the house was up. About 15 to 20 minutes, it was totally engulfed,” Bayonne resident John Paradiso said.
There were no injuries reported.
