Large fire consumes building in Englewood; smoke could be seen for miles

Around 200 firefighters responded to a major fire in a commercial building in Englewood Wednesday morning.
The fire started shortly before 9 a.m. and drew firefighters from several surrounding towns. Thick black smoke was visible across the Hudson River in New York City.

Onlookers said they heard an explosion that rattled the surrounding area. Overhead video showed part of the building's roof and top floor had been blown off.
“A big boom, like a plane crash, like a mushroom cloud, like a big mushroom cloud,” said witness Mark Lewis.
The blaze was brought under control by about 11 a.m., according to Englewood Fire Chief Erik Emerson.
The building is in a commercial area of small warehouses that is near a tire store and several car dealerships. It houses a shoe distributor, according to Emerson.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
