A week of rain helped boost the water levels in Lake Hopatcong, but those who rely on New Jersey's biggest lake still rallied Sunday against what they say is too much draining from the lake.
Locals blame the Department of Environmental Protection for removing too much water out of the lake earlier this year. A new group called the Lake Hopatcong Alliance says if the water level becomes too low, boating on the lake will decline, which could hurt the area's economy.
"No one cares for Lake Hopatcong, except people here. The state doesn't seem to care, they've shown us that," says Ray Fernandez, the alliance's president.
In addition to helping the local economy, members of the alliance say they also want to improve the environment of the lake.
