Juvenile arrested for weapons offenses after gunshots ring out near Rutgers New Brunswick

A juvenile was arrested for weapons offenses after police responded to reports of shots being fired in New Brunswick Saturday.
According to the Rutgers University Police Department, New Brunswick police officers responded to the area of Central Avenue and Courtlandt Street at 12:22 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. The location is a few blocks away from the Rutgers campus.
Police say a juvenile was "quickly" identified as the suspect responsible.
"The juvenile male was arrested by the New Brunswick Police Department and charged with numerous criminal offenses, including weapons related offenses," Rutgers police said in a statement on social media.
Authorities are continuing the investigation, but say no injuries or victims were reported. Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time to contact the New Brunswick Police Department's detective bureau at 732-745-5217. Rutgers police also remind the university community to stay alert, avoid isolated and dark areas and walk in groups whenever possible.
